New Year, New You, & Microneedling Too

The new year is here and, as usual, it鈥檚 loaded with resolutions鈥攔ead more books, exercise more, try healthier recipes鈥攖he list goes on. It can be difficult to stay on top of them all, but one that shouldn鈥檛 fall by the wayside is your skin care routine, and hey, why not sprinkle in something new, while you鈥檙e at it?

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling has been around since the mid 90s, but has recently become more popular. If you haven鈥檛 heard of it, an aesthetician uses a SkinPen庐 with small needles to puncture the first layer of skin.

The treatment is known for generating new collagen and elastin, which reduces fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and some scarring.

We love this treatment series for clients who want to rejuvenate their skin, but aren鈥檛 ready for Botox, dermal fillers, or surgery. It鈥檚 minimally invasive and it will give your skin a boost.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

Multiple tiny needles on your face doesn鈥檛 sound relaxing. Fortunately, your aesthetician will use a topical numbing cream before starting the procedure. A soothing serum is applied afterward, to calm your skin as the numbing agent wears off.

鈥淗onestly, we get this question a lot鈥攁nd we get it! Needles on your face sounds a little bit scary. Keep in mind that the needles are incredibly small. We keep our clients鈥 comfort in mind and if you decide that the treatment is too intense, we鈥檒l stop and discuss other options to help you reach your ideal look,鈥 Richards said.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Your aesthetician will make his or her ultimate recommendation, but people typically get three to six sessions with a four-to-six-week break in between each session. Sessions usually take about an hour from start to finish. The schedule and plan your aesthetician puts together for you will be based off of your skin type and the results you鈥檙e hoping to achieve.

鈥淲e encourage our clients to come in ready to talk about how many or how few sessions they鈥檒l need. Everyone鈥檚 skin is unique, and so are treatment plans,鈥 Richards said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why it鈥檚 important to choose a master aesthetician you can trust to give you the best results possible.鈥

Do I Need to Take Time Off of Work?

Some people take time off of work. Others schedule sessions for the end of the week, so they have the weekend to recover. Expect to experience some mild redness and swelling for about three days following your treatment.
