Huntsman Cancer Foundation Leader Susan Sheehan Receives Bronze Minuteman Award from the Utah National Guard

The Utah National Guard and Honorary Colonels Corps recently presented Susan Sheehan with the Bronze Minuteman Award. The Bronze Minuteman Award is presented annually to civic leaders in the community for their "extraordinary support and leadership to the citizens of Utah." Sheehan is president and COO of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, a philanthropic entity whose sole mission is to raise funds to support Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Sheehan was recognized for her achievements in advancing healthcare and civic engagement accomplishments throughout her career.

Sheehan says, "I feel so grateful and honored, particularly to receive this recognition from the military. It is heartening to see our service members put their arms around the community and recognize the vital role of healthcare in our community."

In an , Maj. Gen. Michael Turley, adjutant general of the Utah National Guard says, "Typically in the military, we are the ones being praised from the community at large and this is an opportunity for us to turn that around and give some praise to our great civic leaders who are pillars in our society."

In addition to Sheehan, fellow awardees included Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Jeff Burton, former adjutant general of the Utah National Guard and member of the Utah State Legislature; Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Larry Lunt, member of the Utah Air National Guard for 36 years, and former member of the Utah House of Representatives; Joe Rupp, a retired United States Marine Corps lieutenant colonel; Jackie Sexton, former staff liaison for the Military Affairs Committee; and Kevin Smith, CEO and executive producer of Tuacahn Center for the Arts, one of the largest non-profits in Utah. Former United States Senator Jake Garn was also honored at the event.
