Moran Eye Center Welcomes Neuro-Ophthalmologist and Pediatric Specialist Sravanthi Vegunta, MD

Sravanthi Vegunta, MD, a former resident and neuro-ophthalmology fellow at the John A. Moran Eye Center, is returning to the institution as a full-time clinician.

Vegunta will practice adult and pediatric neuro-ophthalmology and strabismus and comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology at Moran's main University of Utah location and its Riverton and Midvalley clinics, as well as Primary Children's Hospital.

Following her residency and neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2021, Vegunta completed a pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine, Riley Hospital for Children.

"I'm elated to return to Moran to start my career in an institution that is a leader in academic ophthalmology. The faculty and staff have made Moran home to me," said Vegunta.

Education Leadership and Outreach Experience

Vegunta has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and served in various community and professional activities. She participated as a medical volunteer and teacher at the Aravind Eye Hospital's pediatric and neuro-ophthalmology divisions in Madurai, India, and as a physician examiner with Moran's Global Outreach Division at the first pediatric ophthalmology screening in Chuuk, Micronesia.

While in medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, she volunteered with the Foundation for Blind Children, mentoring visually impaired children and providing medical care at Wesley Community & Health Center's night clinic.

Throughout her residency and fellowship, Vegunta played an active role in Moran's as a member of Moran's Education Program Review and Evaluation Committees and Ophthalmology Residency Admissions Committee.
