Moran Eye Center Welcomes Theresa Long, MD, as its First Ophthalmic Hospitalist

Building on her academic and clinical relationship with the John A. Moran Eye Center, Theresa Long, MD, will serve as the institution鈥檚 first ophthalmic hospitalist.

Long, who recently completed her residency and an anterior segment and cataract/academic fellowship at Moran, will deliver clinical care, perform surgeries, and conduct inpatient and emergency consults at the University of Utah Hospital.

Long鈥檚 clinical appointment includes seeing patients at Moran鈥檚 Stansbury, Redwood, and University of Utah locations.

As an ophthalmic hospitalist, Long will devote half of her practice to evaluating medically complex or critically ill hospitalized patients with emergent and urgent ophthalmic conditions and collaborating with other hospital services to provide multidisciplinary care.

She will continue resident and fellow teaching and training as a seasoned lecturer and active participant in Moran鈥檚 resident admissions committee and academic administration.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to work with trainees in hospital settings. This will allow them to learn to assess and manage clinically complex patients experiencing a range of conditions,鈥 says Long. 鈥淓very moment of our time on the consult services leads to incredible teaching opportunities.鈥

Throughout her residency and fellowship, Long worked as a volunteer ophthalmologist with Moran鈥檚 Global Outreach team at local community clinics, on the Navajo Nation, and in Tanzania.

Long takes full advantage of Utah鈥檚 skiing, hiking, backpacking, and camping opportunities away from work and enjoys baking.
