Caring For Trans Teens' Physical, Mental, & Emotional Health

Health Care Equality Index 2022

We offer a comprehensive clinic for transgender and gender diverse youth, as well as for youth questioning their gender. We care for physical, mental, and emotional health.

Utah passed a law on January 28, 2023 that requires the following in order for a minor (under age 18yo) to be treated with puberty blockers and/or gender-affirming hormones in Utah:

  • Diagnosis of gender dysphoria documented by a health care provider prior to January 28, 2023

  • Obtain a mental health evaluation from a mental health therapist who has the transgender certificate from the Utah Department of Occupational and Professional Licensing. The minor must see this person at least three times.

  • Receive care from the health care provider for gender dysphoria for at least six months and receive hormonal transgender treatment from that provider

Patients and their families are encouraged to schedule an appointment in the Adolescent Medicine Clinic to discuss options and resources available, in accordance with the law.

  • Answer questions about your gender journey.
  • Monitor your physical and mental health.
  • Manage hormone suppression or hormone therapy in accordance with Utah law.

  • Coordinated care

*In general, Utah law prohibits hormone therapy and puberty blockers as treatment for gender dysphoria for anyone under the age of 18 who did not have a documented gender dysphoria diagnosis prior to January 28, 2023. However, Utah law creates a pathway for minors who have a documented gender dysphoria diagnosis prior to January 28, 2023, to receive gender-affirming hormone therapy and puberty blockers.
