Diagnosing Vascular Conditions Through Imaging
At the Vascular Diagnostic and Imaging Laboratory, our vascular sonographers use specialized equipment to examine the arteries and veins throughout the body. Our lab is a full-service clinical diagnostic center.

Vascular Diagnostic Services
Sonographers in our Vascular Laboratory perform a variety of ultrasounds and tests:
- Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screenings
- This study is an ultrasound that determines if the aorta is an abnormal size or dilated (larger).
- Ankle Brachial Indices (ABI) and Exercise (ABI)
- This plethysmography test measures systolic pressures in the arms and legs to determine if peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is present.
- Carotid Artery Duplex
- A carotid artery duplex is an ultrasound imaging study that assesses blood flow to the major arteries in the neck, which supply blood flow to the brain.
- Venous Duplex
- This ultrasound is an imaging study that identifies the presence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or superficial vein thrombosis (SVT).
- Venous Insufficiency Evaluation
- A venous insufficiency evaluation is an ultrasound imaging study that assesses the function of vein valves.
- Arterial or Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS)
- A TOS ultrasound examines major central arm blood vessels.
- Raynaud's Phenomenon Testing
- This plethysmography test is used to check for Raynaud’s phenomenon by placing a small sensor on the fingers or toes to assess blood flow.
- Mesenteric Duplex
- This ultrasound assesses blood flow in the visceral vascular system (digestive system).
- Renal Artery Duplex
- This study is an ultrasound that assesses blood flow in the arteries that supply blood flow to the kidneys.
All test results are read by licensed physicians. Results are used to help our doctors make a fast clinical diagnosis about venous or arterial circulatory conditions.

What Is a Non-Invasive Test?
Noninvasive testing means that sonographers will not use instruments such as needles, tubes, or scopes during your testing. Examinations performed in our department do not require dyes, radiation, or anesthesia.
We use modern ultrasound imaging and plethysmography equipment for low-risk, pain-free testing.
What is a Vascular Ultrasound?
A vascular ultrasound shows imaging of your arteries and veins. Vascular ultrasounds can be performed throughout your body.
These tests are performed by specially trained sonographers to evaluate many vascular conditions.
What is Plethysmography?
A plethysmography test measures volume in different parts of the body. The test uses blood pressure cuffs to measure and compare blood pressure in the arms and legs.
Your doctor will use information from the test to assess your circulation.
What to Expect at Your Visit to the Vascular Diagnostic Lab
When you arrive at the Vascular Diagnostic Lab, you will check in at our front desk. We will ask you to verify insurance and contact information and complete any necessary paperwork.
When it is time for your appointment, a sonographer will take you to an exam room. You may be asked to remove some of your clothing depending on the area of your body that we will be looking at. We will provide a gown for you to change into. We will make every effort to maintain modesty and a comfortable environment.
