Moran Eye Center Welcomes Oculoplastic Specialist H. Joon Kim, MD

The John A. Moran Eye Center recently welcomed oculoplastic and facial plastic surgery specialist H. Joon Kim, MD, to its University of Utah and Farmington locations. 

Dr. Kim provides a wide variety of surgical procedures that repair the eye socket, eyelids, and tear ducts for adults and children. She also offers expert cosmetic services

鈥淚 enjoy assisting my patients with all facets of oculoplastic surgery, and I work to personalize their care,鈥 says Dr. Kim. 鈥淚 can address functional issues such as tear duct blockages, ptosis, skin cancers, and traumatic injury. On the aesthetic side, I鈥檓 pleased to offer a range of options for safe cosmetic procedures, including eyelid and eyebrow lifts and injectables.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

Before joining Moran, Dr. Kim practiced ophthalmology at the Emory University School of Medicine, as well as VA Atlanta Healthcare System, Children鈥檚 Health Care of Atlanta, and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

She has been the recipient of numerous patient satisfaction awards at Emory Healthcare, including the coveted Platinum Provider Award, reserved for clinicians with 99% patient satisfaction.

Dr. Kim completed her medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where she was selected as chief resident. She completed both an oculoplastic surgery fellowship and a teaching fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.   

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Kim is passionate about research and resident and and is a recipient of various teaching and resident advocacy awards. She has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on impactful ophthalmic research projects and serves as a reviewer and associate editor for key peer-reviewed journals.  

Dr. Kim also participates in ongoing global outreach work, teaching and training physicians in low-resource countries. Most recently, she collaborated with a non-profit eye care training organization to launch the first oculoplastic fellowship in Honduras. 鈥淭here鈥檚 a huge need for the most basic ophthalmic procedures, especially among children in developing countries where oculoplastic surgeons are rare,鈥 Dr. Kim says. 鈥淪omething simple as repairing a droopy eyelid or unblocking a tear duct can change a life. I look forward to continuing this work with Moran鈥檚 Global Outreach Division.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
