ABOUT 7 DOMAINS

Women's health through the lens of physical, emotional, social, intellectual, financial, environmental, and spiritual health—the seven domains of women's health.

Exploring Women's Health Beyond the Doctor's Office

Women's health is an expansive field that touches far more than the topics typically covered in a doctor's office. It encompasses a complex, interwoven tapestry of each woman's personal experiences, challenges, and triumphs. Every aspect of a woman's health journey is shaped by the broader scope of her life — her relationships, ambitions, responsibilities, and the physical and emotional realities she navigates every day.

In 7 DOMAINS OF WOMEN'S HEALTH, hosts , and Katie Ward, DNP, WHNP, explore these nuanced influences on women's well-being. Through the seven essential domains — physical, emotional, social, intellectual, financial, environmental, and spiritual — they offer an extensive view of health, revealing how each domain weaves into and impacts the others.

Each episode is thoughtfully crafted to illuminate the connections between these domains and a woman's health, providing perspectives that empower and inspire. Through open, insightful conversations, Kirtly and Katie foster understanding and support for women while inviting listeners from all backgrounds to consider how they, too, can care for and uplift the women in their lives. Join us on this journey to celebrate women's health in its fullest, most profound scope, and uncover actionable insights for every phase of life.

MEET THE HOSTS

Kirtly Jones, MD

I was born in the sign of LEO — that makes me a sunny and bossy person ("everyone will be happy if we just do it my way"). I was born curious, so that is a trait I claim by birth and I want it on my gravestone. I am a biologist by education and a reproductive endocrinologist by training. That means I like to learn and talk about women's health and the amazing beauty of the creation of the biological world.

That is me in a nutshell. I have had the same husband since 1981, the same son since 1984, and a granddaughter since 2021. I have been the host of the "7 Domains of Women’s Health" podcast at the University of Utah since 2012. We get to talk about anything that touches women's health. We have talked about periods and placentas. We have talked about chocolate and travel. We have talked about lying to your doctor and about grieving. All of our episodes are informed by science and by the women who have given me the gift of their stories and their hopes for a happy and healthy life.

I'm a curious soul with a passion for both science and life’s adventures! As a women's health nurse practitioner and clinical professor, I’ve dedicated my career to helping others thrive. Currently, I’m pursuing a second doctorate in anthropology to study human evolution and menstrual cycle behaviors, driven by my fascination with the human story.

When I'm not teaching or caring for patients as a certified menopause specialist, I’m often exploring the world. From long-distance walks to the rugged landscapes of Scotland and the wilds of Africa and Australia, travel is a major love of mine. My curiosity extends beyond the clinic — I devour books, immerse in arts and culture, and serve on the Board of Planned Parenthood, where my journey as a nurse practitioner began in 1990.

After earning my BSN, MS, and DNP, I’m now at a peak in my career with an exciting new chapter ahead. Whether researching hormones or hiking a new trail, I bring relentless enthusiasm to all I do. This journey has been an unexpected adventure for a former teen mom, but I’m here for all of it — with a curious mind, a caring heart, and a deep love for discovery and teaching.
